Nothing special about that hose.
3/8" R2 hose
OAL: 22"
End1: FJX-06-08
End2: FJX90L-06-08
Discount Hydraulic Hose will make it using their house brand R16 hose for $33.
I will make it using Gates MegaSys R16 hose for the same price.

Except that would not be the long (3") drop provided by thr FJX90L hose end.
A long bent tube elbow would get you the drop but Surplus Center does not sell them

That is the reason to buy the hose from "TheOldHokie" for $33 or Messicks for $50. Keep in mind you will be paying shipping no matter who you order from. My guess is that "TheOldHokie" will charge you less for shipping than Messicks based on how they charge for shipping as reported by others on this forum in the past.

TheOldHokie ships most things USPS and is a big fan of their Priority Mail flat rate boxes.
That hose would require a Medium box @$15 anywhere in the USA and i could probably get a half dozen or more in one box.
One hose might ship for less via their new Ground Saver parcel service but I would have to box and weigh it and have a destination address to get a price.

The picture on Messicks site shows one end had a long section of small steel tubing bent as a long, thin elbow. Not a 'normal' hydraulic hose with a 90* ftg on the end.
I'm assuming it's made that way to fit into a 'tight' space ?

That tube elbow is in fact a standard hose end fitting commonly used to gain vertical clearance. They are available in at least three drop lengths - standard, medium, and long. The 3" drop shown in the Messicks picture is the long version - industry number FJX90L i keep all three lengths on hand in 06-06, 06-08, and 08-08 sizes. About 10 minutes to make one.

The best shipping rate from Messick's is always USPS,........ if the item meets USPS shipping requirements.
You MUST specifically ask Messick's for USPS shipping though!

I am 45 miles from Messicks and I buy things on a regular basis but their shipping charges are pretty high. Their UPS shipping to me on that hose is $30. I did not call and ask for a USPS price but I am confident it will be more than the $15 USPS retail price.

Neither is cheap. but most of us are not 45 miles from Messick's either.
A $15 USPS charge is 1/2 of a $30 UPS charge!

My point is Messicks will add a significant amount to the $15 the USPS wants. They have to cover the cost of their shipping supplies and labor. They are also fond of putting small parts in large boxes....

Dan, I wish I was aware of your hose fabrication last winter. I needed a hose like you picture here except 1/2" and about the same length. This was for my old Case 730, line going to 3 pt. quick connect.
Dealer wanted $220 (yes two hundred twenty dollars), had to pre-pay and they'd order it, meaning I had to drive 25 miles each way to get it. I didn't go that route but had one made that didn't have the best fitting for that long curve! Works but ugly!! I'll keep you in mind for future problems.

What you describe, has not been my experience with Messick's using USPS.
I live 450 miles away, and use Messick's as my Ford and Kubota parts source.
I find them to be VERY accommodating!

Yes rhey are accomodating and because of my proximity I often get my orders next day.
I bought my last tractor from them because tjey had it in stock andcat a better price than the other dealers that wanted more and did not have it in stock.
They have an excellent online parts system with actual PICTURES that I visit multiple times per day.
But here is a simple question. Do they charge you USPS retail shipping cost with nothing added to it? Because if they do I want to know why I dont get that deal.

I really do not know how they charge their USPS shipping.
What I do know, is that their USPS charge is always WAY LESS then their UPS charge would be to me.

They mark all of the shipping rates up to cover their in house overhead Thats why their shipping is higher than most. USPS just happens to start out cheaper than UPS and Fedex especially if the package hss to travel any distance.....
Here is tje label on my last order. It appears it traveled by air to Dulles International Airport in Va which is 45 miles SW of me and 90 miles from them. Then by truck another 45 miles back to the Hagerstown distribution center and from there to my door.
UPS on the other hand trucks it 45 miles straight down Rt 15 to their distribution center in Frederick and then to my door.
USPS travels a third route into Baltimore and then 55 miles back west to Frederick and from there to my local post office.
Of the three Fedex is on average the slowest and least reliable.

Actually, they're pretty common so you can stack lines. As a matter of fact, there are three on my loader valve, which is why I was disappointed in myself not noticing TOH's selection.
